Stanford Model United Nations Conference XXVII
Secretary General Claudia Sung speaking at Closing Ceremonies
On November 10-12, 2023, we held the 27th Stanford Model United Nations Conference (SMUNC XXVII), our largest SMUNC in Stanford history! We were able to host 669 delegates from 55 schools to have focused, critical debate on some of the world’s most pressing past and present issues. The conference opened with a speech from keynote speaker Kathryn Stoner in Memorial Auditorium. Throughout the weekend, delegates ideated urban solutions for the UN Human Settlements Program, drafted bills on censorship in education in the Senate Committee on Ethics and Free Speech, debated legal implications for conflict in the South China Sea, as well as simulated the Cabinet of New York Mayor Eric Adams, the 1821 Greek War for Independence, the royal court of the Majapahit Empire, the Battle of Okinawa, and the three governments of the UK, Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland during the Irish Troubles. We also held a Barbenheimer-themed delegate dance and a Stanford college life panel, and raised over $1000 for the Farmlink Project! Thank you to our secretariat, staffers, advisors, and delegates for making SMUNC XXVII an incredible experience!
